The Youth Peer Program—supervised and managed by EPIC since 1998—matches young volunteers with even younger students. They come to Youth Peer one afternoon a week (the program runs daily, Monday through Friday) for an hour of one-on-one tutoring and an hour of socializing, creative activities, food and games. See our Youth Peer page for all the information on this program.
The relationship between student and mentor can work magic.
The student thrives under the watchful attention of a cool older peer.
The volunteer mentor learns that she has the ability to help others.
Both student and volunteer gain confidence in themselves.
Youth Peer staff are always there to make sure everyone is happy and safe.
Learning takes place during tutoring.
Learning takes place during art and guitar sessions.
Learning takes place during games.
Learning takes place while just having fun.
There is lots of laughter, lots of attention, lots of music, lots of celebration and … lots of food!
Everyone is accepted.
